Frequently Asked Questions
Do you sell machined, ready-to-run engines?
We usually machine engines to order and occasionally have some in stock. Those we do have will be listed
under Finished Engines.
What kind of documentation comes with your products?
Our kits only come with blueprints. We don't currently provide exploded views of
engine parts or narratives on how to build engines or boilers. We assume a certain level of knowledge
of machining and of steam engine and/or boiler design and operation.
How much skill does it take to build your engines if I haven't done
any machining before?
You need to be reasonably proficient at using a lathe and milling
machine. We'll machine the more difficult parts for you if you like, for a small charge.
Can I buy castings individually, or do I need to buy the entire kit?
You can buy any individual castings you need. We keep everything in stock.
Do you sell boilers to go with your engines?
We currently sell castings and plans for a horizontal model boiler, and plans only for a
full size water tube boiler.
Are any of your engines able to run a generator to generate electricity?
Yes. You first need to decide how much electricity you need. Then choose
the engine that fits those electricity generating needs. For example,
our "M" engine will develop approximately 4,000 watts when hooked to
a generator. That would power an average house without powering
electric heat. Read this to find out more.
How long will it take to get my order?
We generally send out orders the same or the next business day after we
receive your order. If you have given us your e-mail address, we'll notify you when
your order is sent.
How are orders shipped?
We ship U.S. Postal Service or Federal Express to U.S. addresses unless you specify otherwise in
a special instruction on the address page. We ship U.S. Postal Service to Europe and other
countries. Additional shipping and handling costs
may apply if you want faster service or a special service.
If you live in Canada, we
prefer to use the U.S. postal service so that you can minimize customs
fees on incoming packages. Orders weighing more than 150 lbs. will show
no shipping charges, and we will call you to arrange shipping. You can
also pick up orders at our address, of course.
Or we will be glad to bring your order to a show or a steam meet we
happen to be going to so you can save on shipping.
What payment types do you accept?
We accept Visa and MasterCard, checks (made out to "Tiny Power") and cash.
We can't process American Express or Discover right now. Sorry.
I see that you accept credit cards via the website. Is this secure?
Yes, it is very secure. The payment portion of the ordering process is
via a standard, secure internet process (SSL) on our web server. In addition,
credit card numbers are altered to a different number before they are
sent and then altered back to the original number upon receipt. This, in
effect, double-encrypts the number.
