Ajax w/2 Bronze Flywheels
A single-cylinder horizontal slide valve steam engine, the Ajax was modeled by Tiny Power founder Pop Arnold after a famous turn-of-the-century engine of the same name.
The engine is quite robust and capable of useful
work within its power range. The engine could be used as the engine for
a free-lance steam tractor, or as a static display.
With the exception of pipe fittings, the kit is complete and contains everything needed to build the engine, including cast-iron piston rings. All fasteners are of scale size and use American threads, not English or metric.
The base, cylinder, piston, eccentric and crankdisks are
cast iron. The frame, steam chest and cover, both
cylinder heads, valve and valve rod guide, eccentric strap and the
connecting rod are bronze. Flywheels are available in either bronze or cast iron.
The Ajax can be built on a 9" or 10" lathe with a milling attachment and a drill press. A vertical mill is very helpful, but not necessary.
Note: The Ajax requires a moderate level of machining expertise with close tolerances required, and is not recommended as a first-time project.
This engine is also available with only one bronze flywheel for $300.00.
